basically any time you intentionally hurt yourself or other people you only get negative points with him for being truly corrupt, drugged out or violent. your partner also won't like you less for being weird because he's expecting it. your character will be a wreck no matter what and like one of the loading tips says, you can get away with saying weird stuff because you're a cop.
